TN-09: Primary Predictions Open Thread

Well, this is it: Polls close at 8pm Eastern tonight for the incredibly nasty primary race that corporate-friendly Democrat Nikki Tinker is waging against Rep. Steve Cohen in Tennesse. While three other minor candidates crowd the field, Tinker’s performance will be the one to watch.

Feel free to post your predictions in the comments. As usual, SSP will be liveblogging this race once the results begin to be reported later in the evening. Be sure to check back with us for updates.

  1. A DC polling firm did some work for Blue America recently. They told us our candidate would lose by 51 points– not 51-49– a 51% margin! I thought they were crazy. I mean, I knew our candidate was a longshot, but 51%? Impossible! Election day rolls around and… our candidate lost by 51%.

That same firm told a friend of mine that Cohen’s got this with 65%.

Damn, I wish Obama had been a little clearer in his denunciation of Tinker. How come he jumped in with both feet to save arch-reactionary John Barrow (against a progressive African-American state Senator) a few weeks ago, but won’t help the VERY progressive Steve Cohen save his seat from a bigot from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party?

  2. She will be an anvil around the CBC’s necks and they will have to decide how to deal with her. I think they will split akin to Clyburn/Waters and President Obama may be unfairly called upon to help resolve it. It will be Cynthia McKinney on steroids.

  3. And it won’t be enough to save him from another primary next cycle, either.

By the way, wasn’t there talk a long time ago that Jake Ford was running as an independent in the general?  Am I remembering that wrong?  Anybody know?

…So I looked it up.  He is listed as a candidate on the FEC site, but he’s reported zero dollars.  Beats me what that means.

  4. I don’t think Tinker goes so negative unless internal polling showed she was behind by a lot and had to throw a Hail Mary to win.  I’m hoping/believing that it was not effective.

  5. Cohen beats the anti-semite bitch back, but undeservedly wins by a six point margin. Joe Towns Jr. and the other black Dems split the rest of the primary vote. Damn shame that Tinker and the CBC ran only on racce in this one. Their misdeeds overshadow the committment of good African American Dems like Conyers, Rangel, and Jackson Jr.

  6. Cohen over Tinker, 51-40.

Also, in TN-01, Davis over that other guy 65-35, and in TN-07, Marsha Blackburn wins 71-29. And for the Senate, Bob Tuke is nominated with about 62 percent of the vote. Just guessing.
